Dean Of Students Solicits Management Support For New SRC Leadership
The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah has called on the University Community to provide the newly-elected SRC Cream of Leadership with unwavering support and cooperation as they embark on their leadership journey.
Prof. Owusu-Akomeah made this remark during a ceremony for the 2023/24 Outgoing executives to officially hand-over the leadership mantle to the 2024/25 executives and a swearing-in of the new leadership on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Florence Onny Auditorium.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah commended the immediate past executives for their tireless dedications and service to the University community, wishing them success in their future endeavours. Prof. Owusu-Akomeah underscored the importance of effective communication, urging the new executives to proactively engage students during challenging times, listening to concerns and addressing issues transparently.
“Develop strategies to communicate effectively ensuring that students remain informed and empowered,” he noted. He charged the new executives to strike a balance between their leadership roles and academic responsibilities. “Draw a clear line between your executive powers and academic pursuits. Excel in both realms and remember that your academic success is paramount. I will personally commit to rewarding any SRC executive who achieves a First-Class degree with Gh₵2,000 on Graduation day,” he emphasized. Prof. Owusu-Akomeah warmly congratulated the newly elected SRC executives on their new role.
Giving his remarks, the immediate past SRC President, Mr. Harrison Amoako extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs and the Dean, Prof. Owusu-Akomeah, for being a mentor, a father figure, steadfast guide and offering counsel and support. “As I stand here today, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude.
Together, we have achieved something remarkable, a legacy that will transcend time,” he said. Mr. Amoako highlighted his notable achievements, showcasing his commitment to student growth and key accomplishments. His achievements include student development and engagement (implementing initiatives to enhance student life, skills, and well-being), mentorship programmes (hosting impactful mentorship sessions, connecting students with industry experts and thought leaders), reviving GCTU athletics team and many more.
In his acceptance speech, the interim SRC President, Gideon Asilenudzi expressed his gratitude and readiness to work diligently to ensure a harmonious working environment. “As we embark on this journey, we may encounter challenges, but with divine guidance, the unwavering support of our Dean, faculty, and fellow students, we are resolute in our ability to overcome them,” he elaborated.
The 2024/2025 GCTU SRC Executives includes, Gideon Asilenudzi (Interim President), Alberta Akosua Quansah (Vice-President), Kingsley Buabeng (General Secretary), Elijah Santa (Treasurer), Joseph Santa Tsawe (Public Relations Officer), Kingsley Obiri Darko (Organizer) and Ethel Serwaa Aidoo (Women’s Commissioner).
In addition to the GCTU SRC Executives, other newly-elected executives from various student associations on campus were also sworn in, marking the beginning of their tenure. These associations include ISA, BSA, ESA, ICS and Local NUGS.
Marking a significant milestone, the newly-elected SRC’s General Assembly convened its inaugural sitting, officially commencing their tenure.

This momentous transition paves the way for a brighter future, fostering a sense of community, cooperation, and collective progress among students, faculty members and University officials.
