The Students Representative Council (SRC) Executives and the various SRC Committee Leaders for the 2019/2020 Academic Year of the Kumasi Campus have undergone a one-day orientation programme to be briefed about their roles and responsibilities in the governance structure of the university. The orientation programme also provided the opportunity for the Executive Members to be officially introduced to the Management of the Campus.

In his opening statement, the Ag. Director of the campus, Mr. Emmanuel Hasford congratulated the new SRC Executives on their election into the various offices of the SRC. He admonished that the SRC leadership should be committed to their roles and responsibilities to steer the affairs of the activities of the student body. He charged them to create more opportunities for the student body to be exposed to the world of work through SRC programmes. He advised them not play with their academic work despite the pressures that would come with their duties. The various Heads of Units and Faculty Coordinators also took turns to address the Executives and assured them of their support in the performance of their duties.

The Assistant Registrar in charge of General Administration, Mr. George Akom, took the SRC Leadership through the governance structure of the university. He emphasized on roles and responsibilities of the SRC in the university administration. He averred that the SRC Leadership should not base their decision making on grapevine communications, but rather seek for more clarification from the right source. Mr. Akom informed the SRC Leadership that, Management would provide them with all the needed support in their activities. He pleaded with the Leadership to embark on more activities that would raised awareness about GTUC –Kumasi Campus, and also make student referrals to increase the student enrollment of the campus.

On behalf of the SRC Leadership, Mr. David Frimpong, the SRC President thanked Management for the assurance being given them to support the SRC, and the confidence reposed in them to steer the affairs of the students. He promised Management of the campus to obey all student policies and guidelines set by the university college. He assured Management that , his administration would work hard in collaboration with Management of the campus to improve on student discipline that would bring sanity on campus. He therefore pleaded with Management to improve on campus facilities for better teaching and learning environment.

In his closing statement, Mr. Joseph Dwumah, Lecturer and Coordinator of Student Affairs charged the SRC Leadership to follow the reporting lines in the discharge of their duties. He advised them to come out of programmes that would be beneficial to the entire student body and GTUC. He pleaded with them to be united and take part in student activities.
