The Professional Development Unit (PDU), under the Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD), has held an orientation ceremony to officially receive students enrolled in the 10th batch of the Level 3 Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEE) programme awarded by City & Guilds on February 16, 2026 at the Tesano campus.
The ceremony, which also aimed to officially welcome the students into the academic community of GCTU, was used to introduce the programme structure, academic expectations, mode of delivery, assessment requirements and progression opportunities upon successful completion.
In her welcome address, the Director of CSBPD, Mrs. Araba Hackman Akanji, commended the students for making a bold and strategic decision to pursue their academic goals through the diploma pathway. She emphasized, that the programme should not be viewed as a setback, but rather as a structured opportunity to build a solid academic foundation for future success in engineering and technology-related fields.
According to the Director, the support systems were to create an enhanced opportunity to foster collaboration and academic engagements between students and lecturers. She further encouraged students to remain disciplined, focused and committed, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired could open doors to employment, entrepreneurship and further academic progressions.
Present at the ceremony was the Head of Undergraduate Admissions, Dr. Kwame Owusu Afram, who outlined admission processes and progression pathways into the University’s degree programmes upon successful completion of the diploma.

The facilitators of the programme also counselled students on the importance of academic discipline, regular attendance, active participation in practical sessions and thorough preparation for examinations.

The ceremony concluded with an interactive session, providing students the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification and begin building connections within their new academic environment.
The Level 3 Diploma programme serves as an academic access pathway for students who aspire to pursue degree programmes in Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology but may not have obtained all the required passes for direct admission. It is structured to strengthen foundational knowledge, enhance technical competence and prepare students for progression into undergraduate studies.
