GCTU Student Representative Council (SRC) Akwaaba Week Launched
The GCTU Student Representative Council (SRC) in collaboration with H & S Events has launched its “Akwaaba Week” celebration on 19th February 2024 at the Florence Onny Auditorium, main campus Tesano.
Speaking at the event, the Guest of Honour, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi & Minister designate for Works and Housing, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah underscored the need for students to participate in extracurricular activities on campus since it would build their skills set. “While you are here on campus, you have lots of opportunities to participate in so many things. Don’t spend all your time watching unnecessary stuff. Participate in extracurricular activities since they are the things that will build you up,” he said.
He emphasized the need for students to venture into entrepreneurship which he defined it as “either solving a problem for somebody and being paid for it or to taking advantage of a situation and being paid for it”. He charged students to infuse the values of excellence, personal responsibility and being result-oriented in their academic journey.
In his welcome address, the SRC President, Mr. Harrison Amoako welcomed the students to “Eden, where the seeds of tomorrow are sown, and the possibilities are endless.” He called for the unity in the pursuit of excellence, driven by shared passion for technology and innovation. “As we navigate through the events of the “Akwaaba week” celebration, let us embrace the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and curiosity. Let us take this opportunity to explore new horizons, challenge the status quo, and pave the way for a future that is brighter and more promising than ever before,” he said.
Delivering her speech, the Guest Speaker, MP for Okaikwei South & Minister designate for Gender, Children & Social Protection, Hon. Dakoa Newman encouraged the students to take their academic work seriously and cautioned them about the things they post on social media since employers now do lots of background checks before they employ an individual into their organization.
The Founder of Thamani Global, Bishop Eric Kwapong discussed how technology is transforming the world and emphasized the unprecedented level of development in the realm of artificial intelligence.
Earlier, a representative from H & S Events, Ms. Goldie, touched on the need for students to sharpen their entrepreneurial abilities and make wise professional decisions. She revealed that the planning of the “Akwaaba Week celebration” started in November, 2023 and that students should anticipate nothing less than the finest from H & S.
In a panel discussion at the tail end of the event, a diverse group of professionals shared their insights and experiences in their respective fields of work. Among the panelists were social media influencer, Kwadwo Sheldon, a newscaster and radio show host from the Daily Guide Network, Abena Soreno, CEO of Stunncust Autoworks, and Derrydean, a digital transformation consultant and technology entrepreneur, Kelvin Quaye. They offered valuable perspectives on their areas of expertise.
As part of the weeklong celebration dubbed “Welcome to Eden,” the SRC has lined up a host of events and fun activities to officially usher in fresh students on campus.
