GTUC Holds 18th Prestigious Lecture

On the 27th of April, 2019, GTUC had the honour of hosting its 18th Prestigious lecture for Graduate Students. The event was hosted at the Florence Onny Auditorium and witnessed a masterclass lecture delivered by Dr. Andrew Turner, the Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning. Dr Turner, who boasts of a wealth of experience in innovative academic instruction, gave an informative insight on the topic of the Lecture, “Entrepreneurial Leadership”.

During the Lecture, Dr. Turner alluded to the fact that there exists a worrying gap between Education and Business, citing the fact that particularly in the developing world, the two concepts are not viewed as being complementary. Dr. Turner encouraged interaction from the attendants and encouraged students to embrace risk and innovation if they were to be successful entrepreneurial leaders.

The chair for the event was Dr. Ebenezer Malcalm, Dean of the Graduate School and he also lent his unique insights into the intricacies of successful entrepreneurship and leadership. Dr. Malcalm emphasized the fact that the most successful leaders exhibited not only a set of consistently recognizable traits, but that they were more often than not great entrepreneurs. The Dean also pointed to the fact that business was gradually becoming more and more central, particularly in this era of rapid globalization, and he advised attendants to not give up on their business ideas, regardless of the initial challenges they may face in their early conceptualization.

Once again, the Prestigious lecture offered an excellent opportunity to network and gain valuable insights from a knowledgeable and experienced resource base. We hope that there will continue to be events such as these in the future as we continue the pursuit of knowledge at GTUC.
