The Dean of Students Affairs Prof. Emelia Amoako Asiedu

The Office of the Dean of Students, in collaboration with GRASAG, has held a seminar to equip participants with knowledge and skills required to produce high-quality academic papers on May 21, 2026 via zoom.

Speaking at the Seminar, the Dean of Students Affairs and Facilitator of the seminar, Prof. Emelia Amoako Asiedu, gave an overview of the programme and highlighted the importance of academic writing to graduate students and researchers. She hinted specifically that the School of Graduate Studies and Research was coming up with a policy to ensure that M.Phil. and PhD students publish their thesis before graduation. The seminar had therefore been designed to ensure quality research work to achieve that purpose.

A Lecturer at KNUST, Dr. Issah Ofori

In his presentation at the seminar, a Lecturer in the Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Issah Ofori explained the meaning and significance of academic writing, stressing the need for students to master quality academic paper writing. He outlined key characteristics of effective academic writing, including clarity and precision, formal language, logical organization and objectivity.

Dr. Ofori further provided participants with practical guidance on selecting a good research topic, identifying the features of a strong topic, sourcing research ideas and developing a compelling problem statement.  Other details were conducting effective literature reviews, understanding research methodologies and applying proper referencing and citation techniques, as well as avoiding plagiarism.

Dr. Ofori concluded by encouraging participants to carefully select journals, by considering factors such as scope, relevance, indexing status and publication ethics. He noted, that quality academic writing is a skill developed through learning, practice, discipline and continuous improvement.

The seminar ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants sought clarifications on various aspects of academic writing and research.
