GAUA-GCTU Elects New Executives

Mr. Kwame Owusu-Ansah Afram was declared the winner of the Presidential election with 54% of the votes cast.

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) GCTU Chapter has elected a new cream of leadership with Mr. Kwame Owusu-Ansah Afram as president to steer the affairs of the Association for the next two years at the recent polls held electronically on July 5, 2024.

The presidential slot was keenly contested by three candidates. At the end of voting, Mr. Kwame Owusu-Ansah Afram garnered 58 votes representing 54%, while his two contenders, Dr. Ahmed Antwi-Boampong and Dr. Mark Ofori Nketia secured 45 votes (42%) and 5 (5%) respectively.

The remaining positions which ran unopposed, culminated in Ms. Fatu Esi Sesay (Vice-President); Mr. Kwame Owiredu Sarbeng (Secretary); Mrs. Benedicta Krampah Akoto Bitherman (Assistant Secretary) and Mr. Ebenezer Aboagye Asare (Campus Representative). The treasurer position remains vacant.

A total of seven candidates contested for various positions on the Executive Committee.

In his victory speech, the President-elect, Mr. Kwame Owusu-Ansah Afram extended his profound appreciation to God and all who helped in his campaign and voted for him. “Thank you for your unwavering support, enthusiasm and your hard work.

This victory belongs to each and every member and I am honoured to be your elected president,” he said. Mr. Owusu-Afram emphasized that he and his executives will do their best to ensure that there is accountability and transparency for the betterment of the Association. He called for unity among the executives and pledged to bring on board the losing candidates for the success of the Alumni Association.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Philip Larry Anguah, expressed his profound gratitude to the candidates for their co-operation, constructive criticisms and exhibition of good sportsmanship at every stage of the electoral process. “Elections are over and we must unite as a stronger force for the betterment of the Association,” he emphasized. He lauded the EC Team for the tact and professionalism exhibited in the conduct of the elections.
