GCTU Organizes Alumni Balloting And Manifesto Presentation Session For Candidates

The three presidential candidates were first to ballot for positions.

The GCTU Alumni Association has held a balloting and manifesto reading event for candidates vying for positions on the Executive Committee of the Association on March 26, 2023, at the Florence Onny Auditorium, main campus.

The event, which is part of activities towards the election of substantive executives for the Association, provided a platform for the candidates vying for various positions to share their visions and programmes for the Association by presenting their manifestos.

The Acting Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Philip Larry Anguah, acting as the Co-chair for the event in the absence of the Alumni Association Interim President, Eng. Mark Amoamah, underscored the importance of the alumni to the growth and development of GCTU. Mr. Anguah assured the candidates that the Electoral Committee would do due diligence in compiling a credible voters register to promote a free and fair elections.

The Director of University Relations and Co-chair of the event, Dr. Nusrat-Jahan Abubakar, briefly expressed her excitement at the prospect of having substantive executives to take over the mantle of leadership in the Association and steer it towards growth and prosperity.

Ms. Judith Bani, running unopposed as Organizing Secretary

A total of nine candidates filed to contest for positions in six slots namely president, vice president, secretary, organizing secretary, assistant organizing secretary and PRO. The presidential slot which is the most keenly contested position had three candidates vying to be elected, while the secretary slot had two. The candidates for the vice-presidential position, organizing secretary, assistant organizing secretary and PRO slots were all to run unopposed.

Outlining the modalities for the elections, which is set to take place on 12th April 2024, the Acting Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Anguah, confirmed that voting would be done electronically. He declared campaigning session open while cautioning decorum and civility by all the candidates and their supporters to ensure a free, fair and transparent elections. He lauded the efforts of the Electoral Committee so far for superintending a fair process that had given equal opportunity to all the contestants.
