GCTU has inaugurated a seven-member Search Committee to identify and recommend suitable candidates for appointment as the University’s substantive Vice-Chancellor, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the GCTU Main Campus in Accra.
The Committee was tasked with determining procedures for receiving applications, shortlisting candidates, conducting background checks and interviews and submitting recommendations to the University Governing Council.
In his address at the inauguration, the Chairman of the GCTU Governing Council, Ing. Divine D. K. Kpetigo, said the process followed the end of the secondment of the former VC on February 28, 2026.
He explained that at its meeting on March 3, 2026, the Council appointed the Pro Vice-Chancellor to act as VC pending the appointment of a substantive VC.
Ing. Kpetigo said the Council, in accordance with the GCTU Statutes, particularly Schedule G(1), constituted the Search Committee to undertake the process of identifying and recommending suitable candidates for the position.
“Today, we take the next step in that process, one that carries profound implications for the future direction, growth and success of GCTU,” he said.
He described the appointment of a VC as one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to the University Council, noting that the VC serves as the University’s Chief Executive and Academic Leader who provides the vision, strategic direction and leadership required to advance the institution’s mission and aspirations.
Ing. Kpetigo tasked the Committee with finding a leader with the competence, character, vision and commitment required to guide GCTU through its next phase of development.
The Committee is chaired by the former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Rev. Prof. William Otoo Ellis. Other members are Mrs. Janet Owusu Afriyie (Council member), Prof. Iddrisu Abdul Wahab (Council member), Mr. Eric Wedzi (Council member), Dr Samuel Kingsford Seglah (Senior Lecturer), Mrs. Araba Hackman Akanji (Director, Academic Affairs) and Ms. Jennifer Tornyeli Akude (Registrar and Secretary to the Committee). They are expected to search and present their report to Council on or before November 23, 2026.
In his response, the Chairman of the Search Committee, Rev. Prof. William Otoo Ellis, assured the University community that the Committee would conduct its work fairly and transparently and recommend credible candidates capable of providing effective leadership for the University.
