GCTU Hosts President Of Jamhuriya University
GCTU welcomed the President of Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST), Somalia, Ing. Mohamed Ahmed to a meeting on Thursday, 12th September 2024 at the VC’s Boardroom.
The meeting, hosted by GCTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, was held to discuss potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions, with a focus on advancing technology, engineering and entrepreneurship education.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Afoakwa expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting, “GCTU is committed to producing the human capital required for ICT development in Ghana and beyond.” He expressed optimism that collaboration with JUST, which shares similar goals in the field of technology and entrepreneurship, will be mutually beneficial.
Ing. Mohamed Ahmed provided an overview of JUST’s achievements and initiatives, highlighting their Centers for Technology, Research and Development and Entrepreneurship. He emphasized the importance of these centers in fostering innovation and providing essential training to both students and professionals.
“We have established a Center for Entrepreneurship where we help our students launch startups and gain formal training in business development. This is a key area where we see potential for collaboration with GCTU, particularly in student and staff exchange programmes,” Ing. Ahmed stated.
The President of JUST making a point at the meetingThe discussions between the two leaders also touched on the importance of leveraging technology to facilitate collaboration. “With the availability of online spaces and technology, we can conduct joint seminars, workshops and other academic activities without the constraints of geographical location,” the President noted.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would lead to significant developments in technology education across the two Universities.
Prof. Afoakwa echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the alignment of GCTU’s strengths in IT and engineering with JUST’s focus areas. He revealed that GCTU is in the process of establishing a new Center for Innovation, Technology, Skills and Entrepreneurship Training, which will complement JUST’s existing initiatives.
“We are excited about the possibilities this collaboration holds, especially in the areas of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Our shared vision will drive the growth and impact of both institutions,” Prof. Afoakwa added.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement will outline specific areas of collaboration, including staff and student exchange programmes, joint research projects and the organization of conferences and seminars.
Ing. Mohamed Ahmed expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and the fruitful discussions, saying, “I feel at home here in Ghana and I am confident that our partnership with GCTU will lead to great things. We are excited to start working together to enhance the quality of education and research in both our institutions.”
The visit marks the beginning of what promises to be a dynamic and impactful partnership between GCTU and JUST, with both institutions poised to benefit from the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and resources.
